Who is Jesus Christ?
Many people are asking, who is Jesus Christ? To some the name is a swear word, to others He is a mythical person that a group of people have created a story about, to others He is a religious reformer, a social revolutionary, a prophet who taught on religious matters.
Jesus facts
What do historians say about Jesus Christ, did He exist or is He the figment of the imagination of a few misguided people some 2,000 plus years ago?
Kristin Romey, a self-described archaeologist and journalist who works for National Geographic. has an insightful article and well worth reading. Here are a couple of standout points from the article.
In Jerusalem, Jesus healed a paralysed man at the pool of Bethesda, a ritual pool, archaeologists have discovered clear traces of it beneath the ruins of centuries old churches.
By far the most important discovery is traces of the ancient texts of the New Testament.
The Encyclopedia Britannica has written a comprehensive well researched article that is from Christian and non-Christian sources and well worth the read if you doubt the reality of Jesus Christ.
Wikipedia wrote an article simply called “Jesus” it is extensive in its research and again has many links to sources confirming and proving the historical evidence of Jesus Christ.
Who is Jesus and why is He important?
To a Christian, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He is the second person in the Godhead or Trinity as Christians call it. We believe that He came to earth in the form of a man and lived amongst us. At the age of around 30 He was baptized with the Holy Spirit and began a “power ministry” with evidence of signs and wonders demonstrating the reality of the Kingdom of God. His “power ministry” lasted about 3.5 years—an unbelievably short amount of time to change the world.
His death on the Cross sounds strange to anyone who has no church or Christian background, and that was me for the first 42 years of my life on earth, to me it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard and did not see the connection of His death and my relationship with God.
Death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
To understand why Jesus came to earth and allowed himself to be crucified on the cross we need to go back to the Book of Genesis at the beginning of creation and mankind where God had a deep and rich relationship with man and gave man complete authority over earth and creation. However, man disobeyed God’s divine laws and surrendered headship of earth to Satan, the ruler of the kingdom of darkness and lost his personal relationship with God.
Sin and lost relationship with God
What is sin? This is a strange term and to most people it is a misunderstood term. This is what it means.
- Disobedience to divine laws, wrongdoing
- Missing the mark, error, offence
- Taking the wrong course
Why Jesus Christ came to earth and Sin
After man’s disobedience (sin) to God’s divine laws, long story, but to keep it short for this article, Jesus Christ came to earth in the form of a man and “took our sins” upon himself and allowed His blood to be shed for our sins so that we could regain a personal relationship with God.
Anyone who calls on the name of Jesus Christ will be saved.
Saved from what? After man disobeyed God and lost his relationship with God and the Kingdom of Light, all of mankind came under the rule of the king of the Kingdom of Darkness, Satan and his demons. For more information watch the video called “Behind the Scenes.” In the Bible, Romans 10:9, says this, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
What this means is exactly what it says, if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and King, you will be rescued from the Kingdom of Darkness and be transferred into the Kingdom of Light, God’s Kingdom. Sounds too simple, doesn’t it?
Become a disciple of Jesus Christ
On the 23rd May 1990 after reading the book This Present Darkness by Frank E Perretti Christianity made sense once I understood that in the spirit realm there are two kingdoms who have rulers contending for the control of mankind. I made the decision that I no longer wanted to remain in the Kingdom of Darkness and cried out to God and had a very real and powerful encounter with God.
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
You may be like me and never attended church or received any Bible teachings. After a powerful encounter with God, I knew that He was real, I wanted to know God, who Jesus Christ was ,why He came, who the Holy Spirit was, and how to live a Godly life, but I struggled to read the Bible, I struggled to understand the “Christianese” language and found much of the available Christian Discipleship materials fragmented and difficult to comprehend or follow in a sequential manner.
Christian Discipleship and Discipling others
A desire began to grow within me to help others just like me and provide them with an intentional discipleship path that took them on a “journey” of personal growth and a transformed life, a learning path that was biblically sound yet written in a sequential manner that is simple to understand and easy to use.
