Making Disciples – why is it important? -Christian Discipleship
Making disciples was the clear mandate of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 20:18-20, Jesus Christ told His disciples — “go and make disciples” — this is known as the great commission and is considered as a mandate for all Christians.
Converts vs. Discipleship
The common mistake and failings of modern-day Christianity is making converts and then failing to follow through by discipling them.
Making disciples is helping people know Jesus Christ personally and adhere to His teachings. Its about coming alongside them, teaching them the ways of living a Christ like lifestyle by the example we display in our own lives.
Disciple making
is about investing in the life of the disciple with the intent of transforming them from the inside out, by changing their world view mindsets and godless ways into the plans, purposes and destiny God designed for them.
Good Christian Discipleship
assures us that we will have a next generation that is strong, grounded in the Truth of God’s Word and live a lifestyle that can counter the ravages of the godless lifestyle that is prevalent in society today. Just as Paul said in 2 Timothy2: “——and what you have heard from me —–teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them onto others.”
Relationships and making disciples
Relationships are what matters most to God, discipleship is not just about teaching, structure, bible studies and Sunday sermons.
Discipleship is about creating an intimate relationship with God, learning His ways, and building a strong relationship with fellow believers and becoming change agents to a godless society in a loving manner just as Jesus Christ did.
For me, Making Disciples is about taking a new believer by the hand in a relational manner and walking with them on a sound and biblical based intentional discipleship path that helps them develop a real and personal relationship with God. To learn and discover the ways of God, how He intended us to live life, set them free from past baggage and bondages in their lives, help them to grow into strong mature Christians and equip them to reach out to their circle of influence and disciple others just as Paul instructed Timothy.
